I was listening to NPR this morning and they had a story about Namibia.  It is not very often that there is a story about Namibia unless someone famous went there, like when Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt went there back in 2006(?) to have their baby.

Taxis are now N$8.

I had this book, Oshanas: Sustaining people, environment, and development in central Owambo, Namibia, sitting on my bookshelf for a while.  I finally decided it was time to read it.  This book pops up I think in a lot of school libraries in Namibia.  I know I have seen a bunch of copies around.  I bought this copy off of Amazon.

It is affiliated with a series of races across deserts.  This leg is occurring in Namibia.  I wish I could find a map, but have failed so far. I am almost finished reading a book called Healing the land: Kaulinge's history of Kwanyama (History, cultural traditions and innovations in Southern Africa).  It is the translation of the oral history of the Kwanyama by Tatekulu Kaulinge.  Okwa dalwa mu1900.  Okwa fya mu1992. He was born in 1900 and lived long enough to see liberation.  He died in 1992.

So when I was in Namibia last, I made a visit to my favorite bookstore in Namibia and especially the north, Edumed's.  There, I found a bunch of books I was interested in, but I had a limited budget.  I think I only picked up Omishe di dule eyovi by Paavo Hasheela.  It contains more than a thousand proverbs in Oshikwanyama with the literal English translations and explanations. I finally burned through some older tea that I had around started drinking the Rooibos tea that I brought back after visiting Namibia.  It is wonderful! I realized that somehow I managed to not post all the Javascript math games that I wrote while teaching in Onamutai. As some know, I returned to visit Onamutai for a few weeks.  During that time I was pleased to see that the school is improving and is making the most of the computers that we helped donate.  The teachers and students made it clear that they greatly appreciated the help that everyone gave in helping them replace their stolen computers.

Right before heading down to Windhoek to come back to the states, I managed to fit in a short trip to Etosha.  It seemed a shame to go all that way to Namibia and spend the whole time in the village and not do anything touristy...  Unfortunately, this trip I didn't see any predators except for jackals. The first was aobut 20 hours in NYC (from Minneapolis).  I was supposed to get in at 8 pm, but because of delays really got in about 11 pm and then it takes a bunch of time on the train and subway to get where you want to go: Lar's place (everyone wants to go there).

Well, I was right.  There is a tool called GeoGebra.  It is pretty cool.
